Knowledge Management Departments
Records and Liaison - responsible for developing and sustaining effective stewardship of SOCA’s corporate record in support of our capability as a knowledge led organisation. Coordinates SOCA's disclosure policy and practice. Manages the day to day relationships with SOCA's key stakeholders to exchange information, develop and maintain collaborative working practices, and promote SOCA services.
Knowledge and Tasking is at the heart of SOCA’s business and provides the opportunity to experience and influence how SOCA and its partners work together to achieve results. The Department is responsible for building knowledge, understanding the threats posed to the UK by serious organised crime and translating that understanding into tasked activity - driven and co-ordinated across all control strategy programmes. Individuals within the department are responsible for using information provided by SOCA and partners in order to develop a dynamic picture of serious organised crime and translate that into timely activity that reduces harm to the UK.
Technical Collection Departments
Technical Collection - responsible for exploiting technical means to collect intelligence covertly. Work is highly sensitive and includes the lawful interception of communications and other forms of technical attack.
HUMINT- responsible for managing SOCA’s Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS), targeting, recruiting and running human sources to produce intelligence and evidence in the UK and overseas; including undercover operations and witness protection.
Science and Technology - responsible for monitoring developments in sciences, technology and engineering to identify products and techniques that could enhance SOCA’s capability, engaging with R&D establishments and academia to evaluate, sponsor, adapt and/or procure sensitive equipment, systems and techniques for SOCA’s use. Responsible for Forensic Services, providing forensic support and advice to SOCA operations and, where appropriate, criminal proceedings.
Headquarters - provides support to the Director in co-ordinating and developing the work of the Directorate. The HQ Department also manages a number of teams of full time surveillance officers.
